Group Lesson vs. Private Lessons

Here at Quest we offer Group Lessons as well as Private and Semi-private instruction. We find, some swimmers learn more and build confidence quicker while watching their peers, others learn best with that one on one attention- it all depends on the swimmer!

In our Group Lesson Program, we value our low student to instructor ratios with only:

  • only 4 swimmers per instructor in our Beginner Water Safety, Beginner and Intermediate levels.
  • only 5 swimmers per instructor in our Advanced level.

Private and Semi-Private Classes:

  • Private Lessons are one swimmer per one instructor.
  • Semi-private lessons are two swimmers per one instructor.

On our website you will only see Private Lesson offerings that are available. Any private lesson spot can become a semi-private lesson as long as the swimmers are at or around the same age and skill level and we have space in the pool to accommodate two swimmers. We do not assign or arrange swimming partners for semi-private lessons. For information about our private and semi-private lesson offerings contact our Private Lesson coordinator Joanie Hurst: joaniehurst@questswimming.com

Beginner Water Safety Group Lessons

If your swimmer is 2-4 years old and brand new to the water or taking swim lessons for the first time, there is where you should start! At our Beginner Water Safety Level, the basics of water safety are emphasized and swimmers build confidence in the water. Upon completion of this level, swimmers can go underwater confidently and independently and can float on their front and back without assistance.

These classes are 30 mins long and include four swimmers per instructor.

*Note that none of our Beginner Water Safety Group Classes are Parent & Child classes for this, check out our Aquababies Group!

Beginner Water Safety Group Classes are for ages 2 to 4 years old. Swimmers sit on a tall platform for the duration of class. If your swimmer is 2-4 years old and needs to be challenged more than this group can offer, we recommend private lessons until they catch up with their age group.

Beginner Group Lessons

If your swimmer is not swimming independently or is at least 5 years old and new to swim lessons, this is where to start! At our Beginner Level, swimmers are introduced to the basics of swimming. Upon completion of this level, swimmers can swim short distances rolling from their front to their back to breathe. Water Safety is emphasized at every level but especially this one.

These classes are 30 mins long and include four swimmers per instructor.

*Note that none of our Beginner Group Classes are Parent & Child classes for this, check out our Aquababies Group!

Beginner group classes are for ages 5-8 years old.

Swimmers are on a platform for the duration of class.

If your swimmer is a beginner but does not fall under these age ranges we recommend private lessons until they catch up with their age group.

Intermediate Group Lessons

If your swimmer is comfortable going under water and can swim independently for short distances but needs formal training on how to swim freestyle and/or backstroke, this is where to start! At our Intermediate Level, swimmers build the endurance to swim a full 25 yards and learn to swim backstroke and freestyle with rotational breathing. Swimmers at this level are also introduced to dives. Water Safety is emphasized at every level.

These classes are 30 mins long and include four swimmers per instructor.

Swimmers are either on a platform or standing/swimming for the duration of class. Intermediate Group Classes are available for ages 5-10 years old.

If your swimmer is at the intermediate level but does not fall under this age range, we recommend private lessons until they catch up to their age group.

Advanced Group Lessons

If your swimmer can swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke but can’t swim legal butterfly or breaststroke yet- this level is for them. This class focuses on a legal breaststroke and legal butterfly. At the Advanced Level, swimmers perfect their freestyle and backstroke while they learn to swim Butterfly and Breaststroke, legally, for 25 yards. Swimmers at this level are also introduced to dives, racing starts and finishes. Water safety is emphasized at every level.

These classes are 45 mins long and include up to five swimmers per instructor.

Swimmers at this level do not utilize a platforms and often swim multiple laps. Swimmers at this level are often interested in swimming competitively whether that be a summer league team or a year round competition team like Quest!

Quest Prep Group Classes

Quest Prep is for swimmers that are looking for an introduction to competitive swimming or a " swim team-like " setting, without the pressure of competitions. Whether you are preparing for the high school swimming season, a summer league swim team, or a year round competition team, Quest Prep is the place for swimmers interested in building endurance and continuing technical development in a swim team practice setting.

Quest Prep is divided by age group.

Our 9 and Up swimmers practice up to 3 times per week, for one hour: Monday and Thursdays from 6:45-7:45pm and Sundays from 1245-1:45pm. 2 Coaches are on deck and remain out of the water.

Our 8 and Under swimmers practice up to two times per week for 45 mins: Tuesdays from 6:45-7:30 and Saturdays from 11:45-12:30. For this group, there is one coach in and out of the water.

Due to the nature of this course it is required that swimmers have knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes. If your swimmer is still learning how to swim a certain stroke, instead consider a private lesson or one of our other group lesson offerings.

Teen & Adult Classes

These classes are dedicated to teens ages 13-17 or adults 18 and up interested in learning how to swim!

The curriculum follows our beginner-advanced group levels but at a pace tailored to the swimmers needs and interest.

These classes are typically 30 mins long and are often one on one instruction.

Our Teen and Adult classes are available depending on the current interest.
