Nick Sawyer, or as his swimmers might call him- Commander Pizza Slice, was born and raised in Midlothian and graduated from Monacan High School and Virginia Commonwealth University. Nick has been a swim instructor for 10 years on and off. Competitively he swam year round for the Manchester YMCA from 2000-2002 and for the Midlothian YMCA from 2007-2012. Nick also competed every summer for the Shady Acres Sharks from 1998-2011. In college he continued to swim for VCU’s club team in college before head coaching summer league for the Anirav Riptides and then the Tarrington Tiger Sharks through 2022. He also spent some time coaching for Shady Grove YMCA. Nick’s absolute favorite aspect of coaching is helping children find and use their inner confidence; feeling good about themselves from their hard work, and taking that with them wherever they go in life. If it isn’t obvious, Nick loves to swim but when he isn’t swimming, he is probably playing guitar on his youtube channel!
